Jan Adamus - oboe, English horn

Jan Adamus

The art of Jan Adamus first shone brilliantly in the 1977 International Prague Spring Competition, where he won the first prize and the title of Laureate. For the winner in this competition the way was opened to concert halls both at home and abroad.

Jan Adamus works with outstanding orchestras (Philharmonic Chamber Orchestra Munich, Nürnberger Symphoniker, Prague Chamber Orchestra, Brno Philharmonic Orchestra, Dresdner Kapellsolisten, Czech Philharmonic Chamber Soloists, Martinů Quartet, Küchl Quartett) and artists (Petr Altrichter, Jiří Bělohlávek, Petr Eben, Jiří Kout, Jiří Stárek, Josef Suk, Leoš Svárovský, Vladimír Válek, Ildiko Raimondi).

He partnered Josef Suk in Bach´s Double - Concerto, presented at the 1985 Prague Spring. This Double - Concerto has been recorded with other baroque concertos on a CD. Other CD recordings of oboe concertos have been made in cooperation with the conductors Jiří Bělohlávek (Kramář, Mozart) and Petr Altrichter (Jírovec, Rejcha, Družecký). Jan Adamus takes an interest in searching for classic compositions in the archives that have not been performed or recorded yet. This activity has resulted in recording a CD with Carlo Besozzi's Concertos for Oboe and Oboe Concertos by old Czech masters (Jírovec, Rejcha, Družecký). He also collaborates with the Publishing House "Edition Kunzelmann" in Switzerland where the scores of the Besozzi's and Rejcha's Concertos for Oboe were published.

Currently Jan Adamus is devoted to conducting. He took private conducting lessons from Leoš Svárovský, Professor at the Academy of Musical Arts (AMU). In addition he works in the concert organization and in 2013 he was the artistic director of the „Festival Mitte Europa“.
